New Jersey: Korea Republic drew 0-0 with the USA on Sunday to receive a major boost ahead of their upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign.
The creditable draw against the Americans, who are ranked second in the world, was however soured by the loss of Park Hee-young after the midfielder dislocated a shoulder with only 17 minutes of the game gone at the Red Bull Arena.
The USA, hampered by the absence of striker Alex Morgan, dominated throughout but were frustrated by resolute Korean defending and an inspired performance by visiting goalkeeper Kim Jung-mi.
The game’s best chance fell to the USA’s Sydney Leroux, but her 40th minute shot fizzed narrowly wide.
At the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Korea Republic, have been drawn in Group E alongside Brazil – their opening opponents on June 9 - Costa Rica and Spain.
Meanwhile, the USA are in Group D where they have Australia, Sweden and Nigeria for company.
