Kuala Lumpur: Defending champions Kuwait SC have been drawn against 2013 Indonesia Super League champions Persipura Jayapura during the 2014 AFC Cup Knock-Out Stage draw held at AFC House on Wednesday.
The draw conducted by AFC Deputy General Secretary Dato’ Windsor John saw six other clubs – Vietnamese outfits Hanoi T&T and Vissai Ninh Binh, Arbil of Iraq, Hong Kong’s Kitchee, Qadsia SC from Kuwait and Bahraini club Al Hidd – drawn into their quarterfinal slots.
Hanoi T&T will meet Arbil, the 2012 runners-up and four-time AFC Cup quarterfinalists, in Quarterfinal 1.
The only unbeaten side in the tournament, Vissai Ninh Binh, will take on Kitchee, Hong Kong First Division’s six-time winners who have advanced to their second AFC Cup quarterfinal, in Quarterfinal 2.
Quarterfinal 3 will see another Kuwait club, two-time AFC Cup runners-up Qadsia, locking horns with debutants Al Hidd.
Kuwait SC, the only team to have won three AFC Cup titles, will face off against Persipura in Quarterfinal 4.
The winners of Quarterfinals 1 and 2 will entertain each other in Semifinal 1 while Semifinal 2 will be the hotspot for the Quarterfinals 3 and 4 winners.
The last draw that took place during the ceremony awarded the Semifinal 1 winners the hosting rights for the final match.
The first and second legs of the quarterfinals will happen on August 19 and 26 respectively.
The semifinal first and second legs will take place on September 16 and 30 respectively. The final match will be held on October 18.
