It was high-intensity match as both teams traded blows early but it was Malaysia who smelled blood first. Mohamad Awalluddin Nawi found space on the right after picking up a loose ball in his half and scored though the legs of Thailand goalkeeper Kanison Phoopunin in the first minute. Malaysia doubled their lead though Mohd Ridzwan Bakri five minutes later to make it 2-0 but Thailand pulled one back after applying sustained pressure.
