Ho Chi Minh City: Bluewave Chonburi’s Jirawat Sornwichian sealed his place in the goal-scoring record books after clinching the Top Scorer Award for the second year running after his team beat Islamic Republic of Iran's Sanaye Giti Pasand in the final of the AFC Futsal Club Championship Vietnam 2017 at the Phú Thọ Indoor Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday.
The 28-year-old scored a staggering nine goals in five matches – one more than closest rival Hossein Tayyebibidgoli from Thai Son Nam FC.
In securing back-to-back Golden Boot awards, Jirawat joined the esteemed company of Japanese legend Kaoru Morioka who won in 2013 and 2014.
“It is nice to win, of course, but the most important aim was to win the title. Thank God, we won because I will feel very disappointed winning this award if we did not win tonight,” said Jirawat, who seemed eager to deflect the praise.
“Ultimately, this is a team effort. Everyone in my team worked hard to get the goals. From our keeper to the defence, to the officials, all my teammates, this belongs to all of them as much as me, if not more!”
