Asian Football Confederation President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has expressed deep sadness on the passing of His Majesty King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, stating that his passing is a big loss for the people of Saudi Arabia, and will be sorely felt by the entire Asian continent.
The AFC President also spoke fondly of the late King’s great interest in football, and his far reaching contribution towards the sport’s development in Saudi Arabia which provided a strong foundation for the game’s growth in the Saudi Kingdom.
On behalf of the Asian football community, which holds the deepest respect for King Abdullah, Shaikh Salman conveyed his sincerest condolences and sympathy to the Saudi Arabian Football Federation and all of the nation’s people, saying that all thoughts and prayers are with the Saudis at this time of sadness.
As a mark of respect, Shaikh Salman has instructed that the AFC flag at the AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur be flown at half-mast.
