Hong Kong: Striker Ganbayar Ganbold scored five times to help Mongolia thrash Macau 7-0 in their AFC U-14 Championship 2014 Group H qualifying opening match at the Mongkok Stadium on Saturday.
Ganbold scored on nine, 16, 24, 34 and 52 minutes while midfielder skipper Munkh-Orgil Amarsanaa and Khishigdorj Gajkhuu added the other two goals after 15 and 28 minutes respectively.
Three yellow cards were flown by the referee, one each to Mongolian Ankhbayar Tumurbaatar and Macau’s Pui Pang Fong and Alexandre Emanuel Guterres Noronha.
In a later match of the day, DPR Korea defeated Japan 5-0 and leapfrogged the Japanese to top position.
Mongolia face Japan while Macau entertain Hong Kong next on Sunday.
Forty-six nations are in the qualification for the inaugural u-14 competition and are divided into four zones with the top two teams from each zone (total eight teams) qualifying for the finals.
Tajikistan, Saudi Arabia and Iraq have qualified to the finals after finishing top of Groups C, B and A respectively.
