Kuala Lumpur: Hosts Malaysia will renew acquaintances with Iran and Hong Kong in the inaugural edition of the AFC Women’s Futsal Championship following the tournament's official draw at AFC House in the Malaysian capital on Tuesday.
The Malaysians, who lost to Iran 6-1 and 6-4 to Hong Kong during the group stage of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games Incheon 2013, were drawn in Group A along with the Games’ silver medallists Iran, Hong Kong and Uzbekistan.
Meanwhile, the 2013 Games’ gold medallists Japan, who beat eventual bronze winners Thailand 2-1 in the semi-finals, will come up against the ASEAN nation in Group B, with China and Vietnam completing the quartet of hopefuls.
The event invitations were based on participation in the previous two editions of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games with the 2013 edition providing the basis for seeding for Japan (1st ranked) and Iran (2nd ranked) while the rest of the nations were unranked during the draw.
The competition will be held from September 21 to 26, 2015.
