Bishkek: Hosts Kyrgyzstan beat Bangladesh 2-0 in their FIFA World Cup 2018/AFC Asian Cup 2019 joint-qualifying clash at Dolen Omurzakov Stadium on Tuesday.
Vitalij Lux, who made his international debut in Kyrgyzstan’s campaign opener away to Bangladesh in June, scored his first international goal to give his side the lead with 27 minutes played.
The goal from the 26-year-old, who plays for the reserve team of FC Nurenberg in Germany’s fourth-tier regional leagues, looked to have been enough to settle the match before any doubts were eased when experienced forward Ildar Amirov scored the second one minute from full time as Aleksandr Krestinin’s side moved up to eight points in the Group B standings, just one behind AFC Asian Cup holders Australia who were not in action on Tuesday.
The group winners and four best runners-up (total 12 teams) will advance to the 2019 AFC Asian Cup finals and the final round of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The next best 24 teams from the preliminary stage of the joint qualifiers will compete in a separate competition for the remaining slots (12 slots or 11 slots + 1 slot for the host) in the 24-team 2019 Asian Cup.
