Bangkok: Lebanon downed Myanmar 2-0 in their FIFA World Cup 2018/AFC Asian Cup 2019 joint qualifying match at Supachalasai National Stadium on Thursday.
Hassan Maatouk opened Lebanon’s account with his first goal in the qualifying campaign with 28 minutes gone before substitute midfielder Abbas Atwi, who came on in the 66th minute, gave the Cedars a second goal to celebrate three minutes into stoppage time.
Miodrag Radulovic’s Lebanon have now won two of their four games and remain third in the Group G standings while Myanmar have just a solitary point to their name following their 2-2 draw with fellow strugglers Laos on Match Day 1.
The group winners and four best runners-up (total 12 teams) will advance to the 2019 AFC Asian Cup finals and the final round of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The next best 24 teams from the preliminary stage of the joint qualifiers will compete in a separate competition for the remaining slots (12 slots or 11 slots + 1 slot for the host) in the 24-team 2019 Asian Cup.
