Abu Dhabi: Asian football’s leading national team competition the AFC Asian Cup will take place between January 5, 2019 and February 1, 2019 at eight stadiums in the United Arab Emirates.
The second meeting of the Organising Committee for the AFC Asian Cup 2019 took place in Abu Dhabi, the UAE, on Monday, chaired by Deputy Chairman Chung Mong Gyu (KOR). The Committee agreed to the final match dates which will maximise the advantage of playing the opening game and the final on a weekend.
The Committee also agreed that the two stadiums to be recommended in Dubai will be the Maktoum Stadium (Al Nasr Club) and the Maktoum bin Rashid Stadium (Al Shabab Al Arabi Club), with the opening game and final to be played at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi.
A total of three stadiums will be used in the AFC Asian Cup 2019 in Abu Dhabi, with two each in Dubai and Al Ain and one in Sharjah. The venues will play host to six groups of four teams – making a total of 24 competing teams.
In addition, the Organising Committee approved the tournament logo which was revealed at the draw for the Asian Cup UAE 2019 Qualifiers Final Round, also held in Abu Dhabi on Monday..
The Committee heard an update on the organisation of the event from the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and Mr Chung Mong Gyu thanked the LOC for their efforts in ensuring an outstanding delivery of Asia’s premier football tournament.
Chung Mong Gyu, Deputy Chairman of the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Organising Committee, said: “We know that the Local Organising Committee and the UAE Football Association will deliver a historic tournament in 2019 and we thank them for their continued hard work which will culminate in an event to remember here in the United Arab Emirates.”
