Bangalore: Coach Stephen Constantine hailed his 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers as “one of the best Indian teams in history” but insists securing top spot in Group A remains to be achieved following Wednesday’s 4-1 win over Macau.
Rowllin Borges, captain Sunil Chhetri, an own goal from Macau’s Lam Ka-seng and a late strike from Jeje Lalpekhlua saw India maintain a 100 percent record after four games.
And with the Kyrgyz Republic and Myanmar sharing a 2-2 draw on Tuesday, India are guaranteed a top two finish in Group A to secure a return to the AFC Asian Cup for the first time since 2011 and only the fourth time in their history.
“We have achieved our target, but the job is far from being done as we want to finish first in the group,” said English coach Constantine.
“We can’t afford to sit and celebrate for long. We have to get back to business pretty soon as we’re playing Myanmar shortly. This is a terrific team effort over anything else.
