Abu Dhabi: Both United Arab Emirates and India know the score - a win on Thursday for either side will mean inching ever closer to the knockout stage of the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019.
That sets the stage for an exciting battle as the UAE, expected to be backed by a capacity crowd at the Zayed Sports City Stadium, look to bounce back with a win after being held to a 1-1 draw by Bahrain in their Group A opener on Saturday.
For India, another three points would surely mean a place in the Round of 16 after their impressive 4-1 victory over Thailand on Matchday One.

Abu Dhabi: Fans are the fuel that drive players and the United Arab Emirates, said Khamis Esmaeel, are determined to give them joy when the hosts face India in an AFC Asian Cup Group A match at the Zayed Sports City Stadium on Thursday.
The team, admitted Esmaeel, left the fans disappointed after the 1-1 draw with Bahrain in their opening match, and are determined to make up for that against India, who impressed with a 4-1 win over Thailand.
"The fans are the fuel that push us players to get better and better and it is our responsibility to make sure we satisfy them," said the Al-Wasl midfielder.

Abu Dhabi: A last gasp Ahmed Khalil penalty ensured host nation the United Arab Emirates a share of the spoils as they drew 1-1 with Bahrain in their AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Group A opener on Saturday.
With time running out, Khalil impressively held his nerve to convert from 12 yards for the 1996 AFC Asian Cup runners-up after Mohamed Al Rohaimi had given a resilient Bahrain the lead just 10 minutes earlier.
The draw, played out in front of a vocal crowd at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City Stadium, sees the regional rivals tied at the top of the Group A standings ahead of Sunday’s match between fellow group hopefuls India and Thailand.
After a cautious opening, it was to be the UAE who threatened first, striker Ali Mabkhout expertly finding Ismail Al Hammadi who raced into the area and fired narrowly wide of Bahrain goalkeeper Sayed Shubbar’s far post with six minutes played.

Abu Dhabi: Sunil Chhetri has been quick to play down the significant statistics surrounding India’s impressive 4-1 win over Thailand at the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 on Sunday, insisting instead that his sole focus is on what lies ahead for the South Asians.
On what proved to be a momentous night for head coach Stephen Constantine’s charges, Chhetri netted either side of the break as – along with goals from Anirudh Thapa and Jeje Lalpekhlua – India recorded their first win at the Finals of an AFC Asian Cup since beating Hong Kong at the 1964 tournament.
His brace also took the JSW Bengaluru star’s tally for India to 67 – two ahead of Lionel Messi on 65 and 18 behind Cristiano Ronaldo in the list of the top three international goalscorers still currently representing their countries.

However, although clearly pleased with the impressive victory, Constantine remains adamant that his charges still have plenty of work to do if they are to qualify for the knockout phase.
