Concarneau: DPR Korea qualified for the quarter-finals for the seventh consecutive edition of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup thanks to a dramatic 2-1 win against South American champions Brazil on Sunday.
After taking the lead through a 44th minute Son Sun-im strike, the defending champions withstood a late Brazilian charge, then finally snatched a 93rd minute winner through Choe Kum-ok to set up a Knockout Stage clash with Group A winners France, who defeated Netherlands 4-0 in their final match, on Thursday.
Hwang Yong-bong's side arrived at Stade Guy Piriou knowing a win would secure a Knockout Stage berth, while a draw would leave their campaign hinging on the result of the simultaneous match between England and Mexico.
Brazil simply had to win, and the high stakes contributed to a cautious first half where scoring chances were few and far between and it took until the 39th minute for Kim Kyong-yong to register the game's first shot on target.
