Head coach Michael Weiss’ side will be making their first-ever appearance in the second round of the Asian Qualifiers with Japan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan and Myanmar to contend with in Group F.
Despite being in unfamiliar territory, Weiss is relishing the prospect of meeting heavyweights such as four-time AFC Asian Cup champions Japan.

Manila: Philippines head coach Scott Cooper will place his trust in a mix of youth and experience for the Asian Qualifiers of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar and AFC Asian Cup China 2023.
Cooper has been with Azkals since last year, overseeing training with Sven Goran Eriksson, who had a brief stint with the squad during the 2018 AFF Championship and 2019 AFC Asian Cup UAE in January.
The Philippines made their historic debut in UAE but ended their campaign in the group stage of the Continental competition after finishing behind Kyrgyz Republic, China PR and Korea Republic.

Kuala Lumpur: The 2019 WAFF Championship promises to be a thriller with nine teams set to battle for the title.
To be hosted by Iraq in Karbala and Arbil on July 30 to August 14, the teams have been divided into two groups.
Iraq, one of three former champions in the ninth edition of the 2019 WAFF Championship, have Syria, Yemen, Palestine and Lebanon for company in Group A.
Iraq won the title in 2002 while Syria were champions in 2012.

Iran, Asia's top ranked team, were drawn in Group C for Round Two of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Joint Qualifiers.
Team Melli will have to get past Iraq, Bahrain, Hong Kong and Cambodia to advance to the third round, which will not only take them a step closer to a third consecutive FIFA World Cup Finals appearance but also seal them a place in the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Finals.

Kuala Lumpur: Newly appointed Singapore head coach Tatsuma Yoshida is optimistic about his team’s chances in Round Two of the Asian Qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 despite being drawn in a tough group.
Singapore were drawn in Group D with Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Palestine and Yemen - who have all played in the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019.
The Lions, ranked 162 in the world, will face stiff competition in the qualifying campaign when they kick off against Yemen on September 5 and Palestine five days later.
Three-time AFC Asian Cup champions Saudi Arabia will be next on October 10 and Yoshida admitted Singapore face a huge challenge.

Tokyo: Akira Nishino knows what his target as Thailand head coach is - that the Southeast Asians reach Japan's level.
"I want to build up the team so we can compete well against Japan," said Nishino, who guided Japan to the Round of 16 at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
"I was honoured to receive this offer. I went to Thailand in June and I could recognise their great passion. Thailand has potential. First, we will work to become leaders in Southeast Asia."
Football Association of Thailand President Pol.Gen. Somyot Pumpanmuang was present at Nishino's unveiling in Tokyo on Friday.

Ahmedabad: Pak Hyon-Il was the hero as DPR Korea lifted the Intercontinental Cup with a 1-0 win over Tajikistan in the final at the Trans Stadia in Ahmedabad on Friday.
Substitute Pak scored in the 71st minute as DPR Korea, having defeated Tajikistan 1-0 in their earlier meeting, made it a double over the Central Asians.
DPR Korea deserved the victory as they dominated from the start, although a goal eluded both teams as they went into the break level.
