SINGAPORE: Jeon Kyeong Joon's Super Reds thrashed Dalian Shide Siwu 3-0 on Friday night to grab outright leadership at the summit of the S-League standings.
Their fourth win in a row was made possible by goals from Seo Su Jong (19) and two-goal hero Park Kang Jin (33,50) and gave them 53 points from 22 outings. They lead AFC Cup quarter-finalists and defending champions Singapore Armed Forces FC (SAFFC) by one point.
Home United, the other Singaporean side in the AFC Cup last eight, are three points off the pace.
The win against the Stags is particularly important as both teams are racing towards the finish line, especially as SAFFC have failed to win in three games, with a loss in the crunch top-of-the-table clash with Home United setting the stage for disappointing draws against Gombak United and Geylang United.
The Protectors then blew the chance to go top when a Valery Hiek own goal handed Tampines a 1-0 win on Wednesday night.
