| Travis Dodd scored the winner for Adelaide. |
SYDNEY: AFC Champions League quarter-finalists Adelaide United made a winning start to the fourth season of the A-League, with a 1-0 victory over the Perth Glory in Adelaide on Sunday.
The victory took Adelaide straight to the top of the A-League ladder, the other three matches over the opening weekend all ending in draws.
In his 100th game for the club, United captain Travis Dodd scored the winner with a first-half strike after good work from Brazilian recruit Cristiano, slotting the ball past the Glory goalkeeper at the near post.
Perth pressed for an equaliser after half-time but could not find the back of the net.
Also on Sunday, Wellington Phoenix and Queensland Roar fought out a 1-1 draw in New Zealand.
The Roar opened the scoring in the 46th minute through Scottish recruit Charlie Miller but Phoenix were level just seven minutes later, Shane Smeltz pouncing in the box. Phoenix goalkeeper Glenn Moss made a couple of fine late saves to ensure a draw.
