Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Appeal Committee has met and ruled on a number of appeal cases originating from recent sporting sanctions issued by the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee.
In the appeals of Guangzhou Evergrande (CHN) and Kawasaki Frontale (JPN) regarding discriminatory banners displayed at AFC Champions League matches played on April 26, 2017, the Committee dismissed both appeals in full.
The Committee also decided on appeals in three cases where the physical integrity of match officials and opponents were violated in matches played on May 31, 2017.
In the appeal of Jeju United FC (KOR) player Cho Yong-hyung, the Committee confirmed the six-month match suspension from Asian football and USD20,000 fine imposed. However, it suspended half of the duration, three months, for a probationary period of one year. If Cho is expelled for violent conduct in any official match during the probationary period, the suspended sanction will be automatically invoked. Cho may resume participating in matches from September 9, 2017.
In the appeal of Jeju United FC (KOR) player Baek Donggyu, the Committee imposed a two-month match suspension from Asian football and confirmed the USD15,000 fine imposed. This reduces the original match suspension by one month. Baek may resume participating in matches from August 9, 2017.
In the appeal of Johor Darul Ta'zim (MAS) player Mohd Farizal Bin Marlias, the Committee confirmed the twelve-month match suspension from Asian football and USD40,000 fine imposed. However, it suspended four months for a probationary period of one year. If Farizal is expelled for violent conduct in any official match during the probationary period, the suspended sanction will be automatically invoked. Farizal may resume participating in matches from February 9, 2018.
Each appellant has ten days to request the grounds of decision. If no grounds are requested, the decision becomes final and binding. If grounds are requested, the relevant appellant has twenty-one days from receipt to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The full list of the decisions can be found here.
The Committee will meet next month to deal with a further four appeals which do not involve a sporting sanction:
(i) Brisbane Roar (AUS) Head Coach, John Aloisi (DEC Decision 20170324DC11 - USD10,000 fine)
