Palembang: Korea Republic kept their bid for a maiden Asian Games women's football gold medal on track, easing into the final four with a 5-0 win over Hong Kong at Gelora Siriwijaya Stadium on Friday.
Jeon Ga-eul's early brace got the Koreans off to a strong start, before further goals to Lee Geum-min, Moon Mira and Lee Min-a helped them set up a semi-final clash against either Japan or DPR Korea on Tuesday.
Riding high from a 6-1 win over Tajikistan, Hong Kong started relatively strongly to keep their opponents at bay, but the writing was on the wall when Jeon made 1-0 in the 20th minute, then doubled the tally 12 minutes later.
Hong Kong may have feared the worst when Lee Geum-min made it 3-0 after just 34 minutes, but - despite a vast disparity in statistics measuring possession and shots at goal - Jose Ricardo Rambo's side kept the score relatively competitive thanks to a string of saves from Leung Wai-Nga in goal.
