Kuala Lumpur: Korea Republic star Son Heung-min was named Asia's Best Male Athlete by the Asian Sportswriters Union (AIPS Asia) at its inaugural Awards for Asia.
The Awards for Asia, held for the first time in conjunction with the AIPS Asia Congress and the Selangor International Sports Summit 2019, recognises and celebrates Asian athletes who excelled at the highest level.
Son, 26, who plies his trade in the English Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur had an outstanding performance over the past year.
In the 2018 Asian Games last September, he led the young Taeguk Warriors to a successful defence of their title, before playing a vital role for Spurs to a first-ever appearance in the UEFA Champions League final.
