Riyadh: Al Hilal were confirmed as Saudi Pro League champions on Thursday as a 2-1 win over Al Shabab helped the West Asian giants secure their first top-flight title since 2011.
A 13th minute penalty from Syria international Omar Kharbin and Brazilian import Carlos Eduardo’s strike on 35 minutes proved the difference, and left Al Hilal, with 60 points from 24 games, in an unassailable position at the summit with two matches still to play.
The Riyadh-based side, who now have 14 top-flight titles to their name. are also competing in this season’s AFC Champions League, and currently lead Group D following their 1-0 home victory over Al Wahda on April 10.
