Vientiane: China claimed their second win in their AFC U-23 Championship 2016 qualifying campaign as they downed Singapore 5-0 at the National Sports Complex Stadium in Laos on Sunday.
Li Yuanyi opened the floodgates with only two minutes played before Feng Gang doubled their lead six minutes from the half time whistle in the Group J game.
Xu Xin scored the side’s third goal when he converted a penalty eight minutes after the restart with Zang Yifeng making it 4-0 on 66 minutes. Wu Xinghan bulged the Singaporean net on 79 minutes to comprehensively win the game.
Having beaten Mongolia by the same scoreline in their campaign opener two days earlier, China face hosts Laos while Singapore will lock horns with the Mongolians in the group’s last tie on Tuesday.
Ten group winners and five best second-placed teams from all groups will join hosts Qatar at the AFC U-23 Championship 2016, with January’s 16-team competition also serving as Asia’s qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Rio.
