Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Competitions Committee, which met under the chairmanship of Yousuf Al Serkal, recommended to play the AFC Champions League on a zonal basis until the semi-finals which will guarantee an East vs West final for the next three years.
The committee also proposed to the AFC Executive Committee to maintain home-and-away final for the premier club competition of the continent based on the success of the 2013 AFC Champions League finals.
The members also retained the AFC Cup format of one-off final and recommended that six teams, who will qualify for the AFC President’s Cup final stage will take part in the AFC Cup playoff from 2015 onwards.
The 2014 AFC President’s Cup will be the last edition of this competition and the centralised qualifiers will determine the six teams which will play in the 2015 AFC Cup playoffs .
The committee also discussed and approved the slot allocation for the AFC Champions League 2014 and gave their recommendations to the AFC Executive Committee.
It was also proposed to move the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup to the Philippines from Maldives if the latter does not start required renovation work by December 15, 2013.
DPR Korea’s request to play in the AFC President’s Cup was also approved and recommended to the AFC Executive Committee.
All the recommendations of this committee will be presented to the AFC Executive Committee for its approval.
