Bangkok: The stage is set for more continental youth action with the draw for the AFC U-16 Championship 2014 to take place on Sunday in the host city of Bangkok, Thailand.
The 16 finalists have been classified on the basis of the final rankings of the AFC U-16 Championship 2012 in Tehran and will be drawn into four pots of four teams each.
As hosts, Thailand will be ranked number 1 and drawn into position A1. There will be four pots for the countries who will be positioned as per the ranking they obtained in the 2012 championship in Iran.
Pot 1 will comprise Thailand, Uzbekistan, Japan and Iran. Korea Republic, Syria, Kuwait and Australia will be featured in Pot 2 while China, Oman, DPR Korea and Saudi Arabia will make it into Pot 3. Qatar are in Pot 4 alongside Nepal, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
The top two teams from each group (eight teams in total) will qualify for the knockout stage (quarter-finals) and the four winners of the quarter-finals will play in the semi-finals and the winners advance to the final.
