Melaka: Australia and Korea Republic clinched their second wins in their AFC U-16 Women’s Championship 2015 qualifying campaign as they downed Hong Kong 10-0 and Vietnam 3-0 respectively on Monday.
Joey Cartwright opened the floodgates on eight minutes with the first of her two goals, before defender Hannah Bourke bulged the opponent’s net on 16 minutes before the Group C game held at Hang Jebat Stadium went into the break at 2-0.
Ante Juric’s side stepped up the pace after the interval, midfielder Eliza Ammendolia registering the first of her hat-trick just a minute into the second period. Ashlee Brodigan, who would eventually become the match’s MVP, scored the first of her quadruple on 52 minutes taking the score to 4-0.
Just three minutes later, Brodigan clinched her second goal before Ammendolia also scored her second on 67 minutes. Brodigan’s third soon came on 83 minutes before she completed her quadruple just a minute later taking the Australians’ already big lead to 8-0.
Cartwright completed her double on 86 minutes before Ammendolia scored her third goal three minutes into stoppage time. The Australians now have two wins to their name after defeating Vietnam 6-0 in their campaign opener two days earlier.
In the other Group C tie, Korea Republic defeated Vietnam 3-0, this after having opened their campaign with a bang as they whipped Hong Kong 11-0.
While it took the Koreans 15 minutes to score their first goal against Hong Kong, they took 31 to open the scoring against Vietnam at Hang Jebat Stadium through the contribution of midfielder Park Hye-jeong.
Another midfielder, Yang Hyeon-ji, found Vietnam’s net two minutes before the half-time whistle to double her side's lead.
Substitute Yang Seo-yeong, who came on 52 minutes, sent in the Koreans’ third and final goal against the Vietnamese.
Australia and Ha Keum-jin’s Korean side will clash at Hang Jebat Stadium on Thursday in a game that will decide who will win the one ticket available from Group C to advance to the eight-team finals to be held in China next year.
