Nanjing: Korea Republic skipper Jang Sel-gi has been named the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship 2013 MVP and top scorer after the conclusion of the tournament in China on Sunday.
The striker scored eight goals in the championship including whopping five goals in their 7-0 routing of Myanmar in their campaign opener and one goal each in the meetings with hosts China, DPR Korea and Australia.
With the stellar performance, Jang and her teammates helped Korea Republic become champions after finishing on top of the six-nation table having accumulated 13 points from five games.
DPR Korea finished as the runners-up having consolidated their position with 10 points while hosts China emerged as the third-place winners after accumulating eight points and also clinched the Fair Play Award.
Both Koreas and China, finishing in the top-three of the championship, also claimed their tickets to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2014 in Canada.
The rest of the teams, Japan, Australia and Myanmar, finished in the fourth, fifth and sixth spots respectively in the table.
