Nanjing: DPR Korea secured safe passage to the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship semi-finals, continuing on their winning way with a 2-0 success over a stoic Uzbekistan in their Group A clash in Nanjing on Wednesday.
A Ju Hyo-sim goal gave DPR Korea an early advantage, before they U-17 and U-20 Women’s World Cup holders pulled away with a Kim Pom-ui goal in the second half.
The result confirms a group stage elimination for Uzbekistan, who have suffered consecutive losses to East Asian opposition.
It had taken just 12 minutes for DPR Korea to score in their 9-0 win against Thailand, and this time they took the lead in less than 10, as Ju Hyo-sim poked home Sung Hyang-sim’s lobbed header to give her side the lead.
But that’s where the similarities with the Thailand match ended, as Uzbekistan proved themselves to be a far more formidable proposition defensively, and gave as good as they got in the physical battle.
