Geneva: The UAE beat Georgia 1-0 in a friendly match on Tuesday during their Swiss training camp ahead of their appearance in the AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015.
It took the Emiratis until the second half to break the deadlock as Habib Fardan Abdulla Fardan Al Fardan found the Georgians’ net on 74 minutes.
Georgia put a promising display as they hit the woodwork early in the second half, but the UAE took the only goal in the match as Al Fardan headed in Omar Abdul Rahman’s free kick from the UAE side.
The UAE were enjoying a 20-game unbeaten streak until they lost to Armenia 4-3 in their European tour friendly last week.
The West Asian nation are set to have more European friendlies during the months of August and September by taking on Norway, Belgium and Morocco.
The Mahdi Ali side are in Australia 2015’s Group C along with Iran, Bahrain and Qatar. They will kick off their campaign against the Qataris on Jan 11, 2015, at Canberra Stadium.
