Malacca: Sixteen nations will know their opponents in their qualifying quests for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2014 during an official draw in Malaysian historical city Malacca on Friday.
The seeding for the draw will be based on the rankings of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2010 while the top-four teams of the last edition qualify automatically to the finals.
The 16 teams that will be drawn are (from fifth-ranked downwards) Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Palestine, Bahrain, Bangladesh, India, Kuwait, Lebanon and the Philippines.
The teams will be drawn into four groups of four teams each and each group will battle it out in a one-round league, where each team in the group will play one match against every other team.
The winners of each group will advance to meet the four automatic qualifiers to make an eight-team finals competition.
