Shaikh Salman pledges support to communities battling COVID-19

Kuala Lumpur: Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President, has expressed his support for all the communities who are battling to control and recover from the COVID-19 outbreak.

With more than half the AFC’s Member Association’s being located where the virus has been detected, the AFC President said: “These are unprecedented and challenging times for everyone in these societies. My heartfelt sympathies and my total support are extended to them- not just in Asia but worldwide.

“In these circumstances, we will ensure that the health and safety of the football family and fans is paramount and that is the clear message from the AFC. As the AFC Medical Committee said yesterday in Colombo, Sri Lanka, personal hygiene is crucial as following World Health Organisation (WHO) advice."

QFA and UAE FA bid to host 7th AFC Medical Conference

Colombo:  The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Medical Committee confirmed today in Sri Lanka, that the Qatar Football Association (QFA) and the United Arab Emirates Football Association (UAE FA) have expressed interest to host the 7th AFC Medical Conference in 2022.  

The Committee will evaluate both biddings from the QFA and UAE FA before deciding on which Member Association (MA) will host the Conference.

AFC calls for emergency meetings with National and Club representatives

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) is to call further emergency meetings with the representatives of MAs and its Leagues from both the East and West regions next week as the AFC continues to manage the worldwide impact of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The meeting of the East Zone representatives will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Monday and the West Zone meeting will follow on March 7 and 8, 2020.

AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee bans two Laos players for life

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Disciplinary and Ethics Committee has taken tough action on match manipulation by banning two Laos national team players, Khampheng Sayavutthi and Lembo Saysana, from taking part in any football related activities for life.

They were found to have committed offences under Article 66.1 of the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Code – 2018 edition. Both players were found guilty of conspiring to manipulate the result of an international match between the Hong Kong and Laos national teams on October 5, 2017.

In order to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, no other details will be disclosed.

30th AFC Congress postponed

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Executive Committee has decided to postpone the 30th AFC Congress initially scheduled for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on April 16, 2020.

Following the unavoidable postponement of the AFC Audit, Finance and Legal Committee meetings as well as the AFC Executive Committee meeting because of heightened health concerns and travel restrictions, it was agreed that the Congress will take place at a later date that will be decided by the AFC Executive Committee.

AFC Medical Officers and FIFA Doping Control Officers course ends on a high note

Colombo: AFC Medical Officers and FIFA Doping Control Officers benefited from an informative four-day course in Sri Lanka where key speakers imparted valuable updates on the best and latest practices in sports medicine and anti-doping procedures. 

A total of 58 participants from 22 Member Associations gathered for the course which was held in the South Asian nation for the first time with medical practitioners using the platform to exchange ideas and obtain insights from Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and FIFA speakers.
