Aspetar recognised as AFC Medical Centre of Excellence 

Doha: The Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) commitment towards ensuring world-class healthcare to the Continent’s teams and players was further underlined with the recognition of Aspetar, Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Qatar as part of the AFC’s Medical Centre of Excellence network in a virtual ceremony held today.

Aspetar will now be part of the network of established medical centres under the AFC Medical Centre of Excellence which was launched in 2018 to provide better healthcare for the Continent’s footballers by recognising medical centres in Asia which demonstrate leadership in clinical research and education expertise as well as injury-prevention and management measures.

AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa said: “The AFC’s Vision and Mission has set out our objectives to ensure the success of our teams, players and officials and sports medicine plays an important role in this journey.

Iran Pro League increase safety protocols

Tehran: The Iran Pro League have stepped up their safety and medical measures before the start of their 2020/2021 season later this month.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 16 teams in the top-flight as well as teams in the division leagues will undergo COVID-19 tests before the new season begins.

Safety measures and health protocols hailed at AFC Champions League (West)

Doha: The frontliners and all those involved in the successful staging of the AFC Champions League (West), which ended on Saturday, have been praised for ensuring the safety and health of players and staff. 

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) had worked with the Qatar Authorities to establish the best possible environment for the safe return of Asian Football.

To achieve this, strict protocols and health regulations were put in place for the AFC Champions League (West) since it restarted on September 14 and a total of 8,563 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for COVID-19 testing were conducted on players and officials during the duration of the competition.

Doha: The latest group of participants in the AFC President’s Travelling Fellow for Football Medicine had the opportunity to interact and engage with medical practitioners at the award-winning Aspetar Medical Center. 

Dr. Peechalerm Pisanusan of Thailand, Dr. Yosif Husain of Kuwait, Joanna Ammar of Lebanon and Chhador Zangmo of Bhutan were the latest participants to join the one-week programme aimed at enhancing their knowledge and expertise in sports medicine.

AFC Medical Officers and FIFA Doping Control Officers course ends on a high note

Colombo: AFC Medical Officers and FIFA Doping Control Officers benefited from an informative four-day course in Sri Lanka where key speakers imparted valuable updates on the best and latest practices in sports medicine and anti-doping procedures. 

A total of 58 participants from 22 Member Associations gathered for the course which was held in the South Asian nation for the first time with medical practitioners using the platform to exchange ideas and obtain insights from Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and FIFA speakers.

Bangkok: The AFC President's Travelling Fellow for Football Medicine 2020 continued to spread the knowledge on sports medicine with the latest initiative giving participants the experience of witnessing medical officers working in an AFC competition.

This is the first time participants of the AFC President's Travelling Fellow for Football Medicine experienced how medical and anti-doping methods were put in place during the AFC U23 Championship Thailand 2020.

National Sports Medicine Centre - NSIM joins AFC Medical Centre of Excellence

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) continued its efforts to widen the network of world-class medical centres by recognising the National Sports Medicine Centre - National Sports Institute (NSIM) of Malaysia as part of the AFC Medical Centre of Excellence. 

NSIM will now be part of seven established medical centres under the AFC Medical Centre of Excellence which was launched in 2018 to provide better healthcare for footballers in Asia while looking at ways to improve sports medicine research.
