West Asia Wrap: Al Ittihad take firm grip on Saudi Arabia title race

Doha: Karim Benzema was the star as Al Ittihad opened a four-point lead at the top of the Saudi Pro League.

In Oman, Al Seeb will meet Al Shabab in the final of the Sultan Qaboos Cup while there were also matches in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait and Lebanon.

Doha: Kaio Cesar made a debut to remember as the Brazilian paved the way for Al Hilal SFC's 4-0 defeat of Al Akhdoud to stay top of the Saudi Pro League standings.

Al Ittihad kept pace with Al Hilal with a stirring fightback against Al Kholood while Al Duhail SC maintained their advantage in Qatar.

Doha: Al Hilal SFC and Al Ittihad suffered shock defeats on Monday as they remained locked in a dead heat for the Saudi Pro League title.

In Qatar, Al Duhail SC's lead was reduced to two points following their 0-0 draw with Al Rayyan while the President's Cup is reaching the semi-final stage in the UAE.

Tashkent: Australia showed grit as they came from behind to beat Uzbekistan 3-1 in their AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup™ China 2025 Qualifiers Group C tie on Friday, with victory confirming Australia’s ticket to the Finals.

In the earlier match, Turkmenistan defeated Kuwait 4-3 for the first win of their campaign.

Tashkent: The Philippines fought back against a resurgent Uzbekistan to take home a share of the spoils after a 3-3 stalemate in their AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup™ China 2025 Qualifiers Group C tie at the Yunusobod Sports Complex on Monday.

Australia, meanwhile, secured their second consecutive win after cruising to a 5-0 win over Kuwait.

Riyadh: Al Hilal SFC produced a five-star performance to move back to the top of the Saudi Pro League after a 5-0 win over Al Orobah.

In Qatar, Al Duhail SC defeated Qatar SC 4-1 while Sharjah maintained their lead in the UAE Pro League with victory against Khor Fakkan.

There were also matches in Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait and Oman as several West Asian domestic leagues resumed following the conclusion of the 2024 Gulf Cup.
