Johor Baru: Buriram United will not be fazed by Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) when the sides face off in the second leg of their AFC Champions League Elite 2024/25 Round of 16 encounter on Tuesday.

JDT are unbeaten at home in the AFC Champions League Elite but head coach Osmar Loss said his Buriram side will draw inspiration from the fact that they held the Malaysian champions to a goalless draw in their League Stage encounter at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.

Loss optimistic of Buriram’s progression; Bidoglio prepares for JDT's home challenge

Buriram: Head coach Osmar Loss declared that Buriram United delivered a ‘perfect’ performance despite settling for a 0-0 draw against Johor Darul Ta’zim in their AFC Champions League Elite™ Round of 16 first leg tie on Tuesday.

Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances at Buriram Stadium, the Thai side was unable to break the deadlock, leaving the tie evenly poised heading into the return leg next week.

R16 - 1st Leg: Buriram United FC (THA) 0-0 Johor Darul Ta'zim (MAS)

Buriram: Buriram United and Johor Darul Ta’zim will go into the second leg of their AFC Champions League Elite™ 2024/25 Round of 16 clash next week with nothing between them after the pair played out a tense 0-0 draw at Buriram Stadium on Tuesday.

Neither side was able to find a way through during the 90 minutes, with Suphanat Mueanta going closest to giving Osmar Loss’ side an advantage only to see visiting goalkeeper Andoni Zubiaurre making a fine save from the forward’s header with 25 minutes remaining.

The result was a re-run of the Southeast Asian rivals’ meeting in the league phase and the pair will meet again at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Johor next Tuesday with a place in the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League Elite at stake.

Kuala Lumpur: Johor Darul Ta'zim lifted the Malaysia Super League title for the 11th straight season after a 2-0 win over Perak on Monday.

Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng beat Boeung Ket while Kaya FC-Iloilo defeated Maharlika as both teams stayed in pole position in Cambodia and the Philippines respectively. In Indonesia, Persib Bandung's lead was cut to eight points while Lion City Sailors remained six clear in Singapore with Lennart Thy producing a four-goal performance.

Johor Darul Tazim live up to Bidoglio’s expectations

Johor Bahru: Head coach Hector Bidoglio was over the moon after his Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) side showed their immense quality to book their AFC Champions League Elite™ 2024/25 Round of 16 spot with a 5-2 defeat of FC Pohang Steelers of Korea Republic on Tuesday. 

The Malaysian champions roared back in style after going behind to Lee Ho-jae’s opener, with five players finding the net in what ultimately was an emphatic win at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, with JDT finishing fourth in the East Zone standings on 14 points.

Up next for them will be another Korea Republic side - Gwangju FC - with JDT having the advantage of playing the return leg at home.

Johor Bahru: Johor Darul Ta’zim came from behind to defeat FC Pohang Steelers 5-2 on Tuesday to clinch their spot in the AFC Champions League Elite™ 2024/25 knockout stage.

The win means JDT will finish in fourth spot in the East Zone while three-time Asian champions Pohang - who end their campaign on nine points - were eliminated.
