AFC Women’s Football Day successfully celebrated in Asia

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC), together with 34 Member Associations (MAs), celebrated the seventh AFC Women’s Football Day in March to honour the outstanding contributions of women in football.

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the activities were organised in accordance with strict hygiene protocols and health regulations to safeguard and protect the health and wellbeing of all participants.

Participants benefit from women’s football online session

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Football Focus Group Session for Benchmarking Member Associations (MA) received praise from women’s football administrators following its successful conclusion on Tuesday.

The session was hosted by the AFC’s Head of Women’s Football Bai Lili and supported by key speakers who were invited to present important developments and case studies to participants.

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) determination to pursue the promotion, protection and development of women’s football in Asia were among the key topics discussed at the AFC Women’s Football Global Session which successfully concluded on Thursday.

The meeting, which was divided into two sections - the AFC Women’s Football Strategy and Marketing of Girls' and Women’s Football - welcomed more than 90 women football administrators, coaches as well as coach educators from 44 AFC Member Associations (MAs).

Kuala Lumpur: In celebration of the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) Women’s Football Day on Monday and to mark the third anniversary of the highly-acclaimed 'It’s My Game’ campaign, China PR legend and the Chinese Football Association (CFA) Vice President Sun Wen is featured in the latest episode as she shares her inspiring rise to fame. 

As one of the greatest women footballers in the world, Sun has achieved many accomplishments including winning the FIFA Female Player of the Century, the Golden Ball and Golden Boot awards at the FIFA Women's World Cup in 1999 as well as the AFC Women's Player of the Year award in the same year.

Bai: All-round development is key for female players

Kuala Lumpur: Ludwig van Beethoven once spoke of “seizing fate by the throat”. A little less than two centuries have elapsed since the great musician's death but his words continue to resonate among people facing up to adversity – footballers included. Notable among then is former China PR international Bai Lili, who has shaped a new destiny for herself after her playing career was brought to a cruel and abrupt end by a serious ligament injury.

It happened during the national team’s title-winning campaign at the 2006 AFC Women's Asian Cup. A central figure in coach Ma Liangxing's starting line-up, Bai excelled throughout as China stormed into the last four, where they edged holders Korea DPR 1-0. That game, however, proved to be her last.

AFC Women's Football Day celebrated across the Continent

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and its Member Associations (MAs) will celebrate the 7th AFC Women’s Football Day today by launching a series of exciting activities focused on growing the passion for football as well as paying tribute to the contributions of medical frontliners. 

Coinciding with the International Women’s Day, 34 MAs have pledged to join the annual celebrations with fun-filled initiatives including tournaments, workshops and webinars, while putting in place strict hygiene protocols and health regulations in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
