Goa: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Member Associations voted overwhelmingly today to postpone the AFC Extraordinary Congress 2016 held in Goa, India.
The AFC Member Associations voted 42-1 in favour of not continuing with an agenda which included the election of three additional members to the FIFA Council.
In concluding the 27-minute AFC Extraordinary Congress, the AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa told the delegates and guests: "This has been an eventful morning - and an eventful few weeks.
“But the Congress has spoken with one voice and that has been clear for us all to see. FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, I am not sure if you have been at a shorter Congress but I think you can see the strength of opinion in the room.”
After the Congress, the AFC held an emergency Executive Committee meeting where Shaikh Salman added: "Today the AFC and Asian football has shown solidarity and unity. The message has been clear to everyone both inside and outside Asia.
“Football in Asia is united and that is down to you - the Members - and I thank you for sending out such a strong message that we stand united.”
The AFC Executive Committee co-opted Zhang Jian, from China PR, to sit on the Committee until the next Extraordinary Congress. The AFC will now engage with FIFA to establish the timeline for convening the next Congress.

FIFA has advised the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) that, based on the report of the Investigatory Chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee, it has decided Mr Saoud A.Aziz Al-Mohannadi (Qatar) is not eligible to stand in the elections for the FIFA Council.
This information was shared with the AFC's Electoral Committee, which met in Goa ahead of Tuesday's AFC Extraordinary Congress, as well as the AFC Member Associations.
Zhang Jian (China PR), Ali Kafashian Naeni (Islamic Republic of Iran), and Zainudin Nordin (Singapore) as well as Moya Dodd (Australia), Mahfuza Ahkter (Bangladesh) and Han Un Gyong (DPR Korea) will be contesting the three available seats, with at least one of those places reserved for a female member.

Goa: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa arrived in the Indian state of Goa, where he will chair the AFC Extraordinary Congress on Tuesday. The AFC President will also attend some knock-out matches in the AFC U-16 Championship India 2016 which will be concluded on October 2.
The AFC President will also attend the ceremony to reveal the logo for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will be held in India next year.
Shaikh Salman expressed his delight at visiting India, stressing that hosting the AFC Extraordinary Congress for the Confederation is a testament to the growth of Indian football in Asia and the expertise that the South Asian nation brings to hosting successful events.
The AFC President said: "India succeeded in hosting the AFC Annual Awards night last year, and it is successfully hosting the AFC U-16 Championship 2016. We are confident that they will provide the setting for a hospitable and excellent AFC Congress, considering their infrastructure and experience in hosting major sporting events.”
Shaikh Salman also stressed the importance of the AFC Extraordinary Congress where three additional members representing Asia will be elected to the FIFA Council. He concluded by wishing all the candidates the very best in their respective campaigns to win the trust of AFC’s Member Associations.

The FIFA Review Committee has informed the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) that the candidates who have indicated they will stand for election to the FIFA Council comply with the eligibility requirements.
The FIFA Review Committee confirmed that the candidates can be admitted to the election to contest the three additional Asian seats on the FIFA Council. The election will be held at the AFC Extraordinary Congress on September 27 in Goa, India.
The candidates are:
A: FIFA Council Member (2 seats)
1 Zhang Jian (China PR)
2 Ali Kafashian Naeni (Islamic Republic of Iran)
3 Saoud A.Aziz Al-Mohannadi (Qatar)
4 Zainudin Nordin (Singapore)

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Electoral Committee has reviewed the nomination forms and documents provided and has confirmed that eight candidates will stand for the three additional places available to Asia on the new FIFA Council. At least one of those three places must be filled by a woman.
The eight candidates who will contest the election at the AFC Extraordinary Congress on September 27 in Goa and who complied with the requirements set out in the May 17, 2016 letter and in the AFC Electoral Code which called for candidates are:

2 Ali Kafashian Naeni (Islamic Republic of Iran)
4 Saoud A.Aziz Al-Mohannadi (Qatar)
5. Zainudin Nordin (Singapore)

In accordance to the FIFA Statutes and the FIFA Governance Regulations, the above list of candidates for the FIFA Council has been submitted to the FIFA General Secretariat in order for the FIFA Review Committee to carry out the eligibility check on each candidate.
The AFC Electoral Committee, which was announced earlier in the week, comprises Chairperson Mr F Randall Cunliffe (Guam) and Deputy Chairpersons Dr Hamid Al-Shaibani (Yemen) and Mr Muhannad Fahmi Hamad (Bahrain).
