International Friendlies Wrap: Hong Kong, China shine; Singapore involved in thrillers

Kuala Lumpur: Several nations were involved in friendlies during the international break with Hong Kong, China continued showing progress under new head coach Ashley Westwood after an impressive 3-1 win over Philippines.

Singapore were involved in two five-goal thrillers - winning one and losing the other, Thailand played to two draws while Malaysia defeated Laos before battling to a stalemate with India.

Group D: Stalemate fails to stop Shan United

Yangon: Myanmar’s Shan United FC were held to a 2-2 draw by Tainan City FC of Chinese Taipei but still emerged as the Group D winners of the AFC Challenge League™ 2024/25 on Saturday.

By finishing top, Shan set up a quarter-final meeting with Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng of Cambodia while Tainan will face Indonesia’s Madura United.

Yangon: Chinese Taipei’s Tainan City FC defeated Young Elephants FC of Laos 3-2 in a thrilling AFC Challenge League™ 2024/25 Group D tie on Wednesday.

The topsy-turvy match saw the lead changing hands three times before Tainan eventually secured the win that meant both them and Myanmar’s Shan United are already through to the knockout stage ahead of their meeting on Friday to determine the group winners.

New Taipei: Uzbekistan booked their spot in the AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Saudi Arabia 2025 Finals after defeating Iraq 1-0 in their Qualifiers Group E encounter on Sunday.

Uzbekistan finished with a perfect nine points. Palestine, meanwhile, earned their first win after seeing off Chinese Taipei 2-0.

New Taipei: Iraq cruised to a 4-0 win over Palestine in their AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Saudi Arabia 2025 Qualifiers tie at the Fu Jen University on Friday.

Uzbekistan edged Chinese Taipei 1-0 in the other tie to set up a final day showdown with Iraq to decide the group winners.

New Taipei: Uzbekistan opened their AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Saudi Arabia 2025 Qualifiers campaign with a 3-0 win over Palestine in their Group E tie on Wednesday.

Iraq also got off to a resounding start, defeating Chinese Taipei 5-0.

#WACFutsal2025 Qualifiers Draw finalised

Kuala Lumpur: The 19 teams aiming to earn places in the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup™ China 2025 learnt their opponents following the conclusion of the Qualifiers draw at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday.

The teams were drawn into four groups – three groups of five and one group of four – to contest in a centralised league format from January 11 to 19, 2025.

Nine teams – the top two of each group and the best third-placed team among all groups – will progress to the Finals and join hosts China PR and 2018’s top two, Islamic Republic of Iran and Japan, to continue their quest for glory.

Ho Chi Minh: Head coach Naoki Kusonose is dreaming big after his Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies completed their AFC Women's Champions League™ 2024/25 Group C campaign with maximum points.

An own goal from Chuong Thi Kieu in the first half and a Fuka Tsunoda strike six minutes into the second half paved the way for Urawa to achieve their third straight victory to finish top of the group.

Having already taken the team all the way in the AFC Women’s Club Championship™ 2023 title, Kusunose is targeting a successful run in this inaugural competition.

Ho Chi Minh: Taichung Blue Whale Women’s Football Team of Chinese Taipei finished in style after defeating India’s Odisha Football Club 4-0 in their AFC Women's Champions League™ 2024/25 Group C tie on Saturday.

The result meant Taichung and China PR’s Wuhan Jiangda Women’s FC advanced to the knockout stage as the two best third-placed finishers.

Ho Chi Minh:  Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies made it two wins out of two after defeating Taichung Blue Whale Women’s Football Team of Chinese Taipei 2-0 in their AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2024/25 Group C tie on Wednesday.

Taichung kept their Urawa at bay for 55 minutes, before goals from Yuzuho Shiokoshi and Ririka Tanno sealed the three points for the Japanese side.

After a tame first half, Ho Chi Minh came alive after the break to start their campaign on an emphatic note.
