Abu Dhabi: The Organising Committee of the AFC Asian Cup (OCAC), chaired by Saoud Al-Mohannadi, met in Abu Dhabi on Friday to hear that preparations for the biggest and best AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, which kicks off on Saturday when the hosts United Arab Emirates take on Bahrain, are complete.
Mr Al-Mohannadi thanked the OCAC members for their hard work in preparing for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 which will be the biggest-ever in the history of the competition. “We are now ready for the opening match.”
He added: “This competition will live up to the slogan of ‘Bringing Asia Together’ and with a competition of this stature, we are proud to have extended the AFC’s ‘It’s My Game’ campaign with the LOC to inspire women and girls across the UAE to embrace different roles in football.
“I am pleased to inform you the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 will introduce the Video Assistant Referee System (VAR) in seven matches starting from the quarter-finals. This landmark decision is a first for the AFC Asian Cup as we embrace technology to benefit the game.

Al Ain: Socceroos striker Apostolos Giannou says he is primed and ready for action despite only receiving a last-minute call-up to join Graham Arnold’s Australia squad for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019.
The Cyprus-based forward was drafted in as a replacement for Martin Boyle, who failed to shake off a knee injury sustained in Australia’s 5-0 friendly win over Oman on Sunday, and is hoping to take his good form at club level into the continental championship.
“I’m really happy to be here, it was a really nice start of the year for me,” he said. “On the first of the year I got the call-up and I'm very happy and looking forward to being back with the boys and giving everything I have for the team.
“I feel good, been doing well this year. I’m ready whenever I’m needed to try to help the team that have been set out.”

Seoul: Korea Republic are aiming to kick off their AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 journey with a win when they meet the Philippines in a Group C match on Monday.
Korea Republic and the Philippines will square off at the Al-Maktoum Stadium in Dubai. China and Kyrgyz Republic are the two other teams in the group.
Although Korea Republic have not won the continental title since 1960, the Taeguk Warriors are consistent performers at the AFC Asian Cup, having taken four runners-up and four third-place finishes. The Philippines, meanwhile, are making their first appearance at the Finals.

Abu Dhabi: It's all systems go for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 with teams having touched down in the four cities that will host the Continental showpiece which kicks off on Saturday.
In what will be the largest and best AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, 24 teams will vie for the title with matches to be played in eight stadiums in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai and Sharjah.

Abu Dhabi: A powerful documentary series of inspiring videos produced to celebrate the true spirit of football and the tournament slogan of “Bringing Asia Together” is set to be released by the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Local Organising Committee (LOC).
Through the series of short films titled “Voices of Asia”, the LOC has sought to bring to life the fervour of Asia’s biggest-ever showpiece and provide a global platform to the Continent’s passionate fans.
Episode One features Hareez Al Menhali, the UAE national and super fan who was spotted by cameras in tears at the AFC Asian Cup in Australia and whose iconic image became a symbol for both the competition and the undeniable passion for football that exists in Asia.

Abu Dhabi: With the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system making its debut from the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup UAE 2019, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) today held a media briefing outlining the rationale, principles and reviewable decisions of the VAR.
The VAR system will be implemented in the final seven matches of the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 from Thursday, January 24, 2019.
Since the landmark decision in September last year, the AFC has been working closely with FIFA and the International Football Association Board (IFAB) to ensure the successful implementation of the VAR system.
In addition, a comprehensive series of VAR specific workshops have been organised in recent months to ensure Asia’s elite match officials receive the optimum level of preparation.
