Host cities for AFC Asian Cup China 2023 confirmed

Kuala Lumpur: The 10 host cities for the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 have today been  announced by the Chinese Football Association (CFA). The cities include the People’s Republic of China capital, Beijing as well as Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi'an, Dalian, Qingdao, Xiamen and Suzhou.

The full details will be reported to the Organising Committee of the Asian Cup (OCAC) – at its next meeting in 2020 which will also discuss the overarching vision, key milestones and timelines of Asian football’s most prestigious tournament.

China PR to host AFC Asian Cup 2023

Paris: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Member Associations confirmed on Tuesday China PR as the hosts for the AFC Asian Cup 2023 at the AFC Extraordinary Congress in Paris, France. 

The unanimous decision marks the second time Asia’s crown jewel will be played in the People’s Republic of China which also hosted the 13th edition in 2004 when the tournament was expanded to 16 teams for the first time.
Since then, Asia’s flagship national team competition has grown to 24 teams with the United Arab Emirates staging the biggest-ever edition earlier this year, which broke all digital media engagement and TV viewership records.

Hard work begins for China 2023

Kuala Lumpur: The hard work on delivering the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 begins with the Chinese Football Association (CFA) and the AFC Administration beginning the task of identifying host cities.

The CFA and AFC will also work on the complex but vitally important tournament schedule as well in the weeks ahead.

AFC Asian Cup China 2023 kick off meeting starts in Beijing

Beijing: The journey to the next edition of Asia’s pinnacle stage passed a significant milestone on Thursday after the kick off meeting for the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 was held in the capital, Beijing.

The AFC delegation, led by the AFC General Secretary Dato’ Windsor John, met with the country’s top sports officials including H.E. Gou Zhongwen, Minister of General Administration of Sport of the People’s Republic of China and H.E. Du Zhaocai, Vice-Minister of General Administration of Sport of the People’s Republic of China and one of the AFC’s five representatives on the FIFA Council.

Dato Windsor re-affirmed the Asian football family’s confidence in China’s ability to stage an exceptional AFC Asian Cup in 2023, before outlining the AFC’s Vision, Mission, expectations, as well as key deliverables for the upcoming tournament.

Japan finish year on top, Qatar biggest movers

Kuala Lumpur: Japan ended the year on a high note as Asia's top ranked team, while Qatar were the year's biggest movers, following the final FIFA World Ranking for 2019 released on Thursday. 

Japan, who overtook Islamic Republic of Iran for top spot in last month's Rankings, maintained their position at 28th, with the Central Asians also unchanged at 33rd.

Korea Republic moved a rung up to 40th in third, while Australia maintained 42nd spot.

Kuala Lumpur: Matchday Six of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 came to a close with Syria and Turkmenistan the big winners on an exciting day of action.

Syria made it five wins from five to seize control of Group A as the West Asians will take a whopping eight-point lead into 2020 after defeating Philippines 1-0.

Turkmenistan will also head into the new year as Group H leaders, with their 1-0 win over Sri Lanka and the Lebanon-DPR Korea tie ending in a goalless stalemate giving the Central Asian side a one-point lead.

The Asian Qualifiers will resume on March 26.
