Indonesia, Vietnam match moved to Bali

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation has agreed to a request from the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) to shift the Asian Qualifiers' Group G tie between Indonesia and Vietnam on October 15 to the Capt. I Wayan Dipta Stadium in Bali.

The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 qualifying match was originally scheduled to be played at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.

Petratos replaces Luongo in Socceroos’ squad

Sydney: Newcastle Jet Dimitri Petratos has replaced Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Massimo Luongo in the Socceroos’ squad for the Asian Qualifiers' matches against Nepal and Chinese Taipei, Football Federation Australia (FFA) said in a statement on Sunday.

Luongo played in England overnight but has been managing a minor knee issue, and following discussions with Australia’s coaching and medical staff it has been decided not to risk him over the coming weeks.

Kuala Lumpur: Head coach Tan Cheng Hoe is hoping Malaysia will maintain the momentum which carried them to a 6-0 win over Sri Lanka in an international friendly on Saturday into their Asian Qualifiers campaign.

Malaysia face Vietnam in Hanoi on Thursday in a Group G match needing a positive result after having fallen to a 2-1 defeat to United Arab Emirates last month.

The Southeast Asians had opened their bid to qualify for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 with a thrilling 3-2 win over Indonesia in Jakarta.

Jordan, Singapore settle for draw 

Amman: Jordan played to a goalless draw with Singapore in an international friendly match at Amman International Stadium on Saturday as both teams prepare for their respective Asian Qualifiers' campaigns.

Jordan had the better of the chances but failed to find a way past the Singapore defence.

Abdallah Al Attar and Ward Al Barri saw their efforts go wide in the opening minutes while Nooraldeen Al Rawabdeh also failed to find the target when he broke through just before the half-time break.

Vietnam's Park wary of improved Malaysia

Hanoi: Head coach Park Hang-seo has named a 25-man squad he hopes will get Vietnam wins over Malaysia and Indonesia in their Asian Qualifiers Group G campaign.

Vietnam kicked off their bid to qualify for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 with a 0-0 result against Thailand in a match which the reigning AFF Cup champions should have won.

With the United Arab Emirates the only non-ASEAN team in the group, Park knows Vietnam need to come through the next two rounds of matches with a solid point-haul and will be counting on his players to do just that against Malaysia at home on Thursday and Indonesia away five days later.

Kolkata return excites India

Guwahati: India are expecting strong support in the stands when they face Bangladesh in Group E of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 at the VYBK Stadium in Kolkata on October 15.

There was great support for India in their Asian Qualifiers opener against Oman in Guwahati on September 5 and head coach Igor Stimac is expecting a similar scenario in Kolkata, where the Blue Tigers will be playing for the first time in eight years.

India's result against Qatar, where they held the AFC Asian Cup champions 0-0 in Doha after suffering a late 2-1 defeat to Oman is also expected to spur the fans to pack the VYBK Stadium stands.
