Beijing’s teenage captain Liang leading by example in AFC Champions League

Tashkent: Not many players win Player of the Match honours in their AFC Champions League debut, and fewer still do while captaining their team at the age of 19.

Beijing FC’s Liang Shaowen pulled off both feats in a memorable introduction to the competition at Bunyodkor Stadium on Saturday.

Leading a heavily inexperienced team against United City FC, Liang not only not kept all-time leading AFC Cup goal scorer Bienvenido Marańon scoreless, but curled home the sublime late free-kick which gave his side a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
