Ficcadenti: Nagoya Grampus have what it takes to stay unbeaten in AFC Champions League

Bangkok: Massimo Ficcadenti claims Japan’s Nagoya Grampus have the ability to stay unbeaten throughout the 2021 AFC Champions League after defeating Thailand’s Ratchaburi FC in Group G on Thursday.

Nagoya broke the stalemate in the second half with goals from Brazilain Mateus, Yoichiro Kakitani and Ryogo Yamasaki to seal their fourth consecutive victory to sit three points above second-placed Pohang Steelers, who defeated Johor Darul Ta’zim 2-0.

Bangkok: Head coach Benjamin Mora couldn’t hide his disappointment following Johor Darul Ta’zim’s 2-0 defeat to Korea Republic’s Pohang Steelers in Group G of the 2021 AFC Champions League on Thursday.

The Malaysian side never recovered after conceding two first half goals despite their best efforts in the second half, virtually ending their hopes of advancing into the knockout stage.

Defeat leaves Johor Darul Ta’zim third in the standings with three points, while Pohang have nine, three points behind leaders Nagoya Grampus of Japan, who defeated Ratchaburi 3-0.

Lee Seung-Mo opened the scoring for Pohang before Kang doubled their lead en route to claiming their second win over Johor Darul Ta’zim at the Rajamangala Stadium.

Both teams were evenly matched at the start but Pohang’s influence in the game grew as they took the lead in stunning fashion.
