Group F: Ulsan Hyundai FC beat BG Pathum United to seal top spot and extend AFC Champions League win record

Bangkok: Ulsan Hyundai FC extended their AFC Champions League winning streak to 15 matches as the Korea Republic side defeated Thailand's BG Pathum United 2-0 in the final Group F tie on Sunday.

The victory meant Ulsan Hyundai finished with six wins out of six to top Group F and seal a Round of 16 showdown with Japanese champions Kawasaki Frontale.

BG Pathum United, who also advanced as one of the three best runners-up, will face two-time AFC Champions League winners Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in the Round of 16.

Bangkok: BG Pathum United head coach Aurelio Vidmar hailed his side for putting up a good fight against AFC Champions League titleholders Ulsan Hyundai FC on Sunday as the Australian immediately cast his eyes on the Thai side's upcoming Round of 16 tie. 

Goals by Kim Min-jun and man of the match Valeri Qazaishvili saw Ulsan walk away with a perfect record of six wins to finish as Group F winners, while BG Pathum United advanced as one of three best runners-up.

Bangkok: Debutants Kaya FC-Iloilo may have exited the tournament without a point to their name from six matches but head coach Graham Harvey has vowed that the Philippines side will return stronger to the AFC Champions League. 

Kaya’s AFC Champions League run ended with a 1-0 defeat to Viettel FC on Sunday but it was not for the want of trying as Viettel scored only after Harvey’s side had been reduced to nine men in a space of two minutes with Viettel’s Caique scoring the winning goal from a sublime free-kick after Masanari Omura had been sent off in the 53rd minute with Simone Rota the first to get his marching orders.

Tashkent: Kawasaki Frontale head coach Toru Oniki was full of praise for his players and staff as Kawasaki Frontale completed a six-game winning run to complete their 2021 AFC Champions League group stage at the top of Group I following a 4-0 victory over Beijing FC on Sunday.

The three points were secured for the J1 League side by Kei Chinen and Ten Miyagi, with Kazuki Kozuka scoring a brace as man of the match Guo Quanbo scrambled to save several chances.
