Group J: Port FC beat Guangzhou FC to conclude AFC Champions League challenge in style

Buriram: Port FC completed their debut appearance in the group stages of the AFC Champions League on a high as Sarawut Treephan’s side earned a 5-1 win over Guangzhou FC at Buriram Stadium on Friday.

Second half goals from Bordin Phala and David Rochela turned the tide in Port’s favour after Ning Haoxu's deflected effort had seen Guangzhou score for the first time in the competition and cancel out Sergio Suarez’s’s fifth minute opener.

An own goal from Wang Wenxuan with 14 minutes remaining put Port further ahead and Charyl Chappuis capped the win in injury time.

Port FC, Guangzhou FC determined to build on AFC Champions League experience

Buriram: Port FC coach Sarawut Treephan will look to take the positives from the club’s first-ever appearance in the group stage of the AFC Champions League and put them to good effect when the Thai League kicks off at the end of July.

Port finished in third place in Group J with eight points from their six matches and closed out their campaign with a 5-1 defeat of Guangzhou FC, although Sarawut was unhappy that his side allowed the China PR club to score their first goal in this year’s competition.
