Seeb: Esteghlal and Al Hilal go head-to-head in Group D of the AFC Champions League at Seeb Stadium on Tuesday in a game that brings together two of the continent’s traditional heavyweights.
Esteghlal took an early lead against Al Rayyan in their opening game of the competition but were 2-1 down at the interval, before forward Ali Ghorbani snatched a late equaliser to claim what could prove a valuable point in a group that may well go down to the wire.
The 2017 runners-up Al Hilal could not break down Al Ain when they got their Group D campaign underway in Riyadh last week as the two sides that have played more games than anyone else in the competition ended goalless.
Al Hilal have won two and lost one of the teams’ three previous games in the AFC Champions League, while they were also victorious in arguably their most famous meeting with Esteghlal, when they won the 1991 Asian Club Championship on penalties after the final ended 1-1.
