AFC Statement on AFC Cup 2020 matches

Kuala Lumpur: Following the imposition of further preventive measures and travel restrictions by several national governments due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has decided today to postpone all AFC Cup 2020 matches until further notice. 

The AFC had earlier postponed all AFC Cup West Zone Group Stage matches on March 12, 2020 and the latest decision applies to all matches in March and April across the five AFC zones.

Manila: Having netted the 34th and 35th goals of his AFC Cup career in the Matchday Three win over Indonesia's Bali United, Ceres Negros striker Bienvenido Marañón expressed his joy at becoming the tournament's all-time leading goalscorer.

It may not have been his most stunning goal, but Marañón's close-range header to put Ceres Negros 3-0 up over Bali United last week proved to be a milestone strike.

It took the Spaniard past Jordanian Mahmoud Shelbaieh's record which has stood since February 2015. The-AFC.com caught up exclusively with the Ceres No 7 to reflect on his achievement.

Dhaka: Argentinian striker Hernan Barcos hailed Bashundhara Kings’ AFC Cup debut as “perfect” after his four-goal haul helped the Bangladeshi side to a 5-1 win over TC Sports Club from the Maldives on Wednesday.

The club from Dhaka were making their first-ever appearance in the group phase of the AFC Cup and they made an immediate impact thanks to the former Shanghai Shenhua forward’s prowess in front of goal.

Manila: Ceres Negros FC coach Risto Vidakovic hailed OJ Porteria’s opening goal as the turning point in his side’s resounding victory over Bali United FC on Wednesday as the Philippine Football League champions took control of Group G of the 2020 AFC Cup.
