March 8 – International Women’s Day – is the perfect occasion to reflect on the unwavering commitment and dedication showcased by our Member Associations (MAs) and Regional Associations (RAs) to women’s football over the years.

Taking place in conjunction with International Women’s Day, the Confederation’s annual celebration is set to be observed by almost 24,000 participants from 40 MAs.

Growing up in a football-loving community, it did not take long for her to set her sights on representing her country on the international stage. By the age of 15, her talent caught the attention of the then-national team coach, earning her a debut for Nepal in 1999 at the Continental level, where she represented the Gorkhali Chelis at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup™, then known as the AFC Women’s Championship.

Taking place from November 12 to 14, the conference brought together women’s national team coaches and technical staff to chart a sustainable path forward for the women’s game in Asia.

Last held in 2019, the conference commenced with the annual AFC Special Grassroots Awards and AFC Special Elite Youth Football Awards, honouring the relentless efforts of the Confederation’s Member Associations (MAs) in nurturing the future generations of Asian football.

Her and SAFF’s efforts have not only transformed the landscape of women’s football in Saudi Arabia, but also set the foundation for the next generation of players, coaches and officials.

With AFC Head of Women’s Football Bai Lili at the helm, the WAP visit witnessed several significant meetings take place with key officials of the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC), including FFC Vice President Khiev Samet, FFC General Secretary Keo Sareth, and FFC Technical Director Shigeaki Ichikawa.

As a key figure in the WE League, Takata has become a driving force in women's football in the island nation and has dedicated herself to elevating the women’s game both domestically and internationally.

Taking place from July 4 to 6, the visit was led by AFC Head of Women’s Football Bai Lili, who held several productive discussions with PSSI General Secretary Yunus Nusi and PSSI Executive Committee member and Head of Women’s Football Committee Vivin C. Sungkono to establish a blueprint for the future of women’s football in the island nation.

Twenty-two Member Associations (MAs) who have expressed interest in taking part will each be represented by one club for the landmark 2024/25 campaign of the showpiece, which was announced last August.

Chaired by AFC Technical Director Andy Roxburgh, the virtual session saw technical staff from the AFC’s Member Associations (MAs) come together to exchange learnings on the recently concluded AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2024 and AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ Indonesia 2024, both of which returned after a hiatus of five years.

The upcoming campaign promises to be a thrilling exhibition of top-tier women's football talent from across Asia. With a dynamic format aimed at fostering competitive spirit, the tournament aligns seamlessly with the AFC's Vision and Mission.
