Liaoning: Guangzhou Evergrande scored twice either side of half-time as the reigning AFC Champions League champions turned attention to the defence of their domestic crown with a 4-0 hammering of Liaoning Whowin in the Chinese Super League on Saturday.
Dong Xuesheng opened the scoring in the 18th minute before 2013 AFC Foreign Player of the Year Muriqui doubled the advantage on the half-hour mark.
A 71st minute own goal from Liaoning’s Australian midfielder Billy Celeski extended the visitors’ lead before Elkesson, pictured celebrating one of his two goals in Guangzhou’s 2-1 ACL matchday six win over Yokohama F Marinos, scored the fourth with one minute at the Liaoning Panjin Stadium remaining.
Marcello Lippi’s side continue the defence of their continental crown on May 6 when they travel to Japan to face Cerezo Osaka in the first leg of their Round of 16 fixture.
