Gallardo takes over at Al Ittihad

Jeddah: Marcelo Gallardo has been named the new head coach of reigning Saudi Pro League champions and two-time AFC Champions League™ winners Al Ittihad FC, the club announced on Saturday.

The Argentinian replaces Nuno Espirito Santo, who made way after Al Ittihad lost 2-0 to Air Force Club in the AFC Champions League 2023-24 earlier this month.
 
Gallardo, who led River Plate to the Copa Libertadores in 2015 and again in 2018, has been given a contract until mid-2025 by the Saudi side.

Klinsmann says PSG's Lee on 'new level' for Taeguk Warriors

Seoul: Korea Republic head coach Jurgen Klinsmann said Lee Kang-in has reached "a completely new level" after the Paris Saint-Germain attacking midfielder starred in his country's big Preliminary Joint Qualification - Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™  win over Singapore.

Lee was used sparingly by Klinsmann's predecessor Paulo Bento but set up the first goal and scored one himself as Korea Republic began their campaign with a 5-0 stroll in Seoul on Thursday.

Korea Republic's hopes dashed

Jakarta: Korea Republic were denied a place in the FIFA U17 World Cup Indonesia 2023 knockout stage after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Burkina Faso on Saturday.

The loss meant Korea Republic ended their Group E campaign with three defeats, with Asia to be represented by Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan and Uzbekistan in the Round of 16.
