Oscar confirms Shanghai Port departure

Hong Kong: Brazilian playmaker Oscar has confirmed his departure from Shanghai Port after eight seasons, the former Chelsea forward revealing on social media that he has returned to Sao Paulo.

The 33-year-old made the announcement as he brought down the curtain on a stint in China PR that saw him win three Chinese Super League titles as well as the Chinese FA Cup and the Chinese Super Cup.

Persepolis part ways with Garrido

Tehran: Persepolis FC have parted company with Juan Carlos Garrido, the Spaniard leaving the Iran Pro League side after a disappointing run of form that has left the club fourth in the domestic standings.

The Tehran-based outfit have lost three of their last four league matches to sit five points behind leaders Tractor after 13 games of the current campaign. Assistants Karim Bagheri and Seyyed Jalal Hosseini will take charge on an interim basis.

Kobe: Vissel Kobe have confirmed the departure of captain Hotaru Yamaguchi, with the J1 League-winning captain leaving the club to join V-Varen Nagasaki.

The move to the second division outfit brings an end to a six-year spell with the club, during which time Yamaguchi helped steer Kobe to back-to-back league titles and two Emperor’s Cup crowns.

Holland takes charge of Yokohama F. Marinos

Yokohama: Yokohama F Marinos have named former England assistant coach Steve Holland as their new manager, the J1 League outfit announced on Tuesday.

The 54-year-old takes over as the long-term replacement for Harry Kewell, who led the club to the final of the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 but left in July due to a run of poor domestic form.

Kuala Lumpur: Fans of Asian football have made their passion known in the strongest terms in the ongoing AFC Champions League Elite™ (ACL Elite) 2024/25 season, which has generated remarkable attendance statistics.

After six Matchdays of the current League Stage, the ACL Elite has witnessed an average attendance of 11,966, which exceeds official figures from the 2022 and 2023/24 editions of its predecessor, the AFC Champions League™. This mark is 17% higher than the average of 10,194 from the first six Matchdays in the 2023/24 Group Stage.

Hasebe to chart Frontale's course

Hong Kong: Former Avispa Fukuoka head coach Shigetoshi Hasebe will lead Kawasaki Frontale into the remaining league phase matches of the AFC Champions League Elite™ 2024/25 after the 53-year-old was appointed to replace Toru Oniki at the club’s helm.

Hasebe, who was named the J.League’s Manager of the Year for 2023, takes over after Oniki ended a hugely successful eight-year spell with the club at the conclusion of the 2024 J1 League season to join Kashima Antlers ahead of next season.
