With the wind at their backs throughout the second-half in Doha’s Saoud bin Abdulrahman Stadium, the club from Baghdad will have expected to put a disappointing opening 45 minutes behind them against the group leaders.

Al Wahda had been on top throughout the first-half as the Syrians carved out a host of chances as Air Force struggled. Hammadi Ahmed, the Iraqi side’s star player and key striker, fashioned little more than half-chances, causing Al Wahda’s defence few problems.

It was not the same story at the other end of the pitch as, after a nondescript opening 15 minutes, Al Wahda took control.
