Group A: Hilal Alquds Club 2-6 Al Wehdat

Al Ram: Bahaa Faisal Seif netted a six-minute hat-trick and added a fourth in the second half as Al Wehdat strolled to a 6-2 victory over Hilal Alquds Club at the Faisal Al Husseini Stadium on Matchday Two of the 2019 AFC Cup Group A on Monday.

A catalogue of mistakes at the back allowed Mohammad Al Basha to net Al Wehdat’s first goal of the afternoon in the 16th minute.

Hilal Al Quds captain Tamer Salah fluffed his lines while attempting to clear Rajaei Ayed’s cross from the corner kick. The loose ball fell to Al Basha whose tame header from close range was misjudged by goalkeeper Khaled Azam to find its way to the back of the net.

Amman: Al Wehdat coach Kais Yakoubi hailed his side’s 1-0 win over Lebanon’s Nejmeh SC in their first 2019 AFC Cup Group A match.

The Jordanian side had marked their return to the competition with a hard-fought victory over Nejmeh at King Abdullah II Stadium on Monday.

Just 48 hours before their first continental encounter, Al Wehdat had to navigate an away trip to Irbid where they defeated Al Sareeh 4-2 in the domestic league. And coach Yakoubi was adamant that fixture congestion had impacted his side’s preparations for the Nejmeh clash.

Vidakovic demands more from Ceres Negros

Bacolod: Ceres Negros of the Philippines ultimately took all thee points from their 2019 AFC Cup opener against Myanmar’s Shan United on Tuesday, but manager Risto Vidakovic was far from satisfied with the manner of his team’s win.

Ceres were beaten in the ASEAN Zonal Finals by Home United of Singapore last year – the opponent over whom they triumphed at the same stage in 2017 – and have made it to the knockout stage in each of the past three years.

As far as Vidakovic was concerned their 3-2 win against Shan to get up and running in Group G was too close for comfort though, and he wants an improvement in the next game if the team are to continue their strong form in continental competition.
